It is basic and a bit rough but exellent value for money. If you just need a place to sleep which is clean and safe this has all you need. The location is exellent. I will use it again. Thanks

I have been visiting the Ashley for some 25 years. That says it all. A well run, secure hotel and an excellent base in London.

Generally the accommodation and the breakfast was good. The tariff for the room is also reasonable and the location is excellent.
Only problem experienced was the stairs which I consider to be safety hazard.

At 40 £ (single room, breakfast included) my expectations were low, but I was very impressed with the standard! Friendly staff, super comfy bed, hardly any traffic noise.
100 meters to Paddington station and tube. Had to share shower and toilet with a handful of other rooms but it was not a problem at any time.
Good value for money, will recommend to others.

Stayed in it several times over last 15 years and never feel the need to go any where else. Staff are faultless...nice handy location near tube, trains and hyde park. Value for money.

I could never have imagined such a small hotel room. Perhaps 9 ft. x 9 ft. including a toilet, sink, shower, bed, and desk. Like being in a tiny sailboat cabin or something. Lack of air conditioning was a significant minus, although room cooled off at night (I was there in late July). Oh, and did I mention no lift? Schlepping two large and heavy bags up the narrow staircases was less than a treat -- I was panting like a race horse when I reached the 4th floor, and perspiring like one too. But once I was in place it wasn't too bad, and the price is decent. Management was polite, and the woman who cleaned my room (Geeta, I think) was exceptional.

Very good for family of four with small children.Lovely location close to tube. Room a little cramped. had a great holiday !!

Good location, excellent value for money for London, especially as good cooked breakfast included. This was my second visit and this time I stopped for only one night in what was apparently a double room occupied as a single: my only reservation would be that it would have been a bit cramped for a couple staying longer.

Cheap and cheerful and very close the Paddington.
Posted at 03:06 11 Jul 2008 by neil dicken Rating: 7
i stayed for 4 weeks on and off.
the first week they gave me a double room as there wasnt any single rooms available. when stopped the second time i had one of the single rooms on reception, very noiseym, you could here everybody come in and always here the door bell troughout the night. and on my final week i had a room on the very top floor, apart from the endless amount of stairs a very quiet room compared to the previous.

but on a whole this a great hotel, clean, courteous staff, will use again if in London.

I booked needing an emergency room in London and arrived at Ashley. It was so reasonable (less than half the price of anywhere else I could find on short notice) that I was expecting little more than an YHA level of experience and was very pleasantly surprised. It's basic, but clean and quiet, the staff are friendly and very helpful - from helping out with taxis, storing luggage etc. It's not the Marriott, but I've been back twice since and would recommend to anyone needing a basic room in London.

Very basic with very small bathroom facilities but clean and maintained to a decent standard. Breakfast was good. At £60 per night one does not expect The Dorchester, so I rate this as good value for money.

Very nice. Single room rather cramped and weird ex-airplane bathroom!
But very kind, helpful and courteous staff.
Good for Central London

Small single room but efficient; seemed clean enough and quite friendly. Good value for the location.

Have stayed at the Ashley 6 times in last few years since 2001 and am booked again for this year (2008) We do find it very pleasant. The square opposite is also a great bonus to relax. (It hardly seems like London it is so "country like"). If you are clever and plan your days parking is also good !! Management good, Rooms clean and Breakfast adequate. Location also perfect for travel anywhere in tbe capital. Definitely recommend to all.

There are several great reasons for staying at this hotel but the first is location, location, location! Just a few blocks from Paddington station, you can walk to Oxford circus! Great for those on a budget, nice breakfast layout and hotel staff is very friendly. I'm definitely coming back!! See you in July!

Very close to tube, quiet location with pubs, restaurant and also internet cafè just around the corner, nice and quiet victorian palace with a pleasant decor, very kind and warm staff, relaxing view on the square with a garden, we staied in the double ensuite room n.5, 1st floor and it was very clean, comfortable and large: no problems with our luggage, also had a little cupboard and a lot of drawers, bathroom with tiles was clean and not smelly such as most of others hotels have, shower also clean and large enough.
Definitely above the average of London Hotels, don't compare with American style, but it's excellent to relax and to have a really tasty cooked english breakfast!
I really recommend it!

Very kind staff, very good price, very nice decor, very clean, spacious and comfortable room, bathroom also clean, large shower, they borrow hairdrier, great cooked breakfast and toast as much as you want, very quiet square, with pubs and restaurant nearby, less than a minute walk to tube, highly recommended: we would definitely come back!

My wife and I have stayed in the Ashley several times over the last five years. The rooms are pleasant and clean; spacious enough if you view a hotel primarily as a place to sleep. Excellent location overlooking a beautiful square with minimal traffic. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. No lift, but some ground floor rooms. Good value.

Excellent location. Bathroom not really a bathroom, more of a cupboard but was ok. Staff pleasant and facilities clean. Really handy for everywhere in London. Prices reasonable. Would come again.

Can't beat the location, reasonable price,
staff makes you feel at home. Nice and quiet, but good pubs, restaurants and delis a half block away. Would definitely stay there again.

My home from home in London. Clean and comfortable with a very warm welcome. Tasty breakfast with more food than I can eat. Great location, especially when flying in and out of Heathrow. Redecoration was well underway in July of 2003. When complete I'll rate the hotel at 10+.
Posted at 12:12 10 Mar 2004 by E Askham Rating: 5
Clean hotel, but miniscule bathroom a bit off-putting. Providing a hairdryer would be an excellent bonus for those who need to travel light. Excellent proximity to Paddington Station for Heathrow connection.

I am sending my cousin Linda to see you.

Adequate for it's age. Cracks starting to show. Small cooked breakfast not FULL!
Posted at 06:04 4 Oct 2003 by Rose K. Rating: 2
The staff were pleasant, but I would never recommend this seedy hotel. I'm not sure the sheets were clean; the bed was all springs. The shower had mold and mildew, the shower curtain had a layer of grunge along the bottom and a filthy toilet brush was stored in a corner of the tiny bathroom. You can do better in this price range.

Room clean and very quiet, although quad a bit tight. Very well located(close to trains/tube). Nice staff. Reasonable rate. Will recommend to friends.

Very nice and friendly but a little bit to expensive.
After an exhausting day in London it is the right hotel to relax.
Posted at 09:06 9 Jul 2003 by john piper Rating: 7
Clean, friendly and feels "safe" if that makes sense. Ideal for the single traveller in the big city.
Only drawback i can think of, the en-suite toilet / shower cubicles are a bit cramped, but the water is nice and hot!

We have stayed at the Ashley 7x since July 2000. Started very good and has gotten better. We referred Ashley to 3 friends with no complaints

Clean, well run hotel with pleasant staff. Breakfast was well cooked and hot, with as much toast as you wanted!
Really close to Paddington. Will stay again.
